About Nick Inman

NickInman

I was born and brought up in Harrogate, Yorkshire (in the UK) and took a degree in Politics at Bristol University in 1978. I travelled a fair amount before and during my years of study, including to India overland. After graduating, I trained as a further education teacher and did a succession of jobs rather than follow a conventional career path. I also lived for a time at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland.

At the end of 1985 I moved to Spain and there I began to write articles, moving gradually into travel guides.

In 1993 I relocated with my family to London where I worked for the BBC preschool magazine Playdays as assistant editor and then spent five years as a project editor/senior editor with Dorling Kindersley working on their lavishly illustrated series of travel guides. I helped create the Eyewitness guides to Spain, Istanbul, Mexico and the Holy Land.

On leaving DK, I went freelance and have barely paused since, doing a succession of travel guides, mainly to Spain.

In 2007, I branched out with Politipedia and The Optimist's Handbook both written for a new and dynamic publisher, Harriman House, and I took a step into publishing myself with Mimbelle Books. Ultimately, I intend to write novels and play, particularly radio plays, and lead self-development workshops.

I now live in Southwest France in an old Bigourdain farmhouse looking at the Pyrenees with my wife, daughter and son. My other interests, which sometimes intersect with my professional life include art, stained glass, wildlife and traditional vernacular architecture.
