There are bars (most serving a free tapa with each drink) and restaurants in three locations: along the beach, in the modern town at the bottom of the hill and (to a lesser extent) in the old part of town on the hill. Here is a selection of places we like which are open all year.
El Peñón (Playa del Peñón Tel: 958 610538) There is no missing this restaurant which occupies one side of the distinctive rock which divides Salobreña's two beaches. There is a shaded terrace overhanging the sea where you can sit and eat seafood. Sometimes you will be entertained by boys and young men diving from the rocks. Price: on the expensive side.
Pesetas (Bóveda 13 Tel: 958 610182): Located on the top of the hill. It serves delicious local food (mainly fish) and there is a magnificent view over the town and far beyond from its roof terrace. Price: average
Mesón La Villa (Plaza Francisco Ramírez de Madrid Tel: 958 612414). A restaurant in the lower town frequented mainly by locals,. Varied Mediterranean menu. Try its delicious revueltos (scrambled eggs mixed with vegetables) or mejillones rellenos (stuffed mussels). Price: average.
Steakhouse Tropical (Urb. Mare Nostrum Playa, 16 Tel: 958 612584). Beach restaurant on the seafront of the other half of the Mare Nostrum estate and hence only a short stroll from El Canyar. The emphasis is on meat but it also serves excellent salads and tasty baked potatoes. Price: average
El Asador (Avenida Mediterráneo 1 Tel: 958 611738): Bar restaurant where you can either have tapas or a full meal, both consisting of traditional fish and meat dishes. Located in town on the road leading to the beach. Price: expensive
Yusuf (Plaza del Antiguo Ayuntamiento Tel: 958-612749) Elegant restaurant in an old town house close to Salobreña's principal church. Its small dining rooms are perfect for a romantic dinner. Mediterranean cuisine combined with a selection of Arab inspired dishes. Price: expensive
